My Approach
Heal From Narcissistic Abuse
My Approach to Healing
You don't need to fit yourself into a treatment model. Your treatment should be built around you.
There is no single path to healing from narcissistic abuse, trauma, anxiety, or the patterns that keep you feeling stuck.
Some clients need to understand what happened before they can begin to let it go. Some need to calm a nervous system that has been living in survival mode for years. Some need to process a specific memory, dream, relationship, or experience that has suddenly brought something painful to the surface.
And sometimes your body knows exactly what needs to be addressed before your conscious mind does.
My approach is to meet you where you are and listen carefully to what your mind, brain, and body are telling us.
I combine trauma-informed psychotherapy, EMDR, nervous system regulation, neuroscience-based techniques, and — when appropriate — individualized amino acid therapy to create a treatment plan that is specific to you.
We figure out what you need, and we work from there.
Trauma-Informed Psychotherapy
Healing isn't just about understanding what happened to you.
It's about understanding how those experiences have affected the way you think, feel, respond, relate to others, and experience yourself.
Trauma can change the way you see yourself and the world around you. It can leave you questioning your instincts, doubting your perceptions, struggling to trust, or feeling disconnected from your own body.
Our work goes beyond simply talking about what happened.
Together, we work to understand the patterns that developed, identify what is still keeping you stuck, and begin changing the responses that no longer serve you.
My goal isn't to keep you analyzing your past indefinitely.
It's to help you heal what needs to be healed so you can live differently in the present.
EMDR: Unwinding Trauma in the Brain
I use EMDR when it is appropriate for the client and the work we are doing.
And I don't believe EMDR has to begin with your childhood, your oldest trauma, or the experience you think should be the most important.
It may be a memory, a dream, a sudden trigger, a belief that is keeping you stuck.
Your body often knows what needs attention before your conscious mind can explain why.
I also make sure there is enough time at the end of the session to slow down, integrate what we've worked through, and help you feel grounded and safe before we stop for the day.
Regulating the Nervous System
When you've lived through prolonged emotional manipulation, unpredictability, fear, or trauma, your nervous system can become accustomed to being on high alert.
You may intellectually understand that you're safe while your body continues to behave as though you're not.
You may feel anxious, panicked, exhausted, restless, numb, disconnected, angry, hypervigilant, or unable to quiet your mind.
Your nervous system is stuck on high alert. Part of healing is teaching it that it no longer has to remain in survival mode.
I incorporate nervous system regulation into our work so that you can begin to feel safer and more grounded in your own body — not simply understand the concept intellectually.
Amino Acid Therapy
For some clients, targeted amino acid therapy can be a powerful part of the healing process.
I draw from the work of pioneers such as Joan Larson and Julia Ross, who brought nutritional and amino-acid approaches into the worlds of mental health, addiction, and recovery.
Rather than a one-size-fits-all protocol, I work with you to trial individual amino acids so we can determine the combination and dosing that best supports you.
The goal is to help support and repair the brain and nervous system so that you can feel more calm, grounded, and able to engage in the therapeutic work.
For clients who are struggling with symptoms such as anxiety, panic, sleep disruption, depression, intrusive thoughts, anger, or feeling constantly activated, having additional support for the brain and nervous system can make the therapeutic process feel much more manageable.
One of the things I love about the amino acids is that it can put some real and tangible power back into the client's hands.
Mind, Brain & Body
What happens emotionally can affect the body.
What happens in the body - including the brain and nervous system - can affect how you think and feel.
That's why I don't believe healing should happen exclusively “from the neck up.”
Sometimes the body is carrying information that the conscious mind hasn't fully processed yet.
The goal of healing is to reconnect mind, brain, body - and spirit.
An Individualized Approach
There is no perfect way to begin therapy.
You don't need to have your story organized.
You don't need to know exactly what happened.
You don't need to know whether something “counts” as trauma.
Maybe you're in the middle of a narcissistic relationship and trying to figure out how to survive it.
Maybe you've finally left and can't understand why you still feel so attached.
Maybe you're navigating divorce or custody.
Maybe you're dealing with narcissistic abuse in your family or workplace.
Maybe something happened years ago and your body is telling you that you're not finished with it.
I draw on years of clinical experience, professional training, and the clinical intuition that comes from working directly with people who have experienced narcissistic abuse and trauma.
I don't just listen to what you're saying. I listen for what you’re not saying.
Healing Doesn't Have to Take Forever
I don't believe you need to spend decades in therapy endlessly analyzing every detail of your past.
Understanding your history matters, but, ultimately, the goal is to create change in your life now.
I want you to understand what happened, but I also want you to be able to stop living inside it.
I want you to recognize manipulation before it pulls you in.
I want you to trust your instincts again.
I want you to feel safe in your own body.
I want you to be able to set boundaries without drowning in guilt.
I want you to know who you are when nobody else is telling you who you should be.
And ultimately, I want you to build a life that feels like yours.
